Dear Area 31.
last night I was a proud parent as two of our area competed at division level.  Joanne Chan and David Thompson both from CWC eventually both came runner up in their respective competitions.  The standard was high and Ex-district governor Nick Benning described the division as the power-house of the district. Please join me in congratulating the two of them.  The winners of the competitions were:

Jonathan Palmer - Humorous speech
Andrew Klimaytis - Table topics

Lets see if we can make the next competition in six months time an even more stunning success

Regards

Dave Brooks
Area 31 Governor

Speakers’ Corner Revival
Bill Moss invites you to join his merry band each Sunday at Speakers’ Corner in Hyde Park. An antidote to the fundamentalists in 3–5 minute segments. All welcome.

London Humorous Speech Competition 2007

This Monday is the Division B (London) contest, comprising of the winners from the various Area contests. The contest is being hosted by Corinthians, presumably at the Westminster Thistle hotel. The competition starts at 7:30, and there are educational segments from 6:00. All are welcome, no pre-registration required.

If you’re interested in being a Judge, kindly let me or Dave Brooks know.

Bill Moss did very well at the Area Competition, and very nearly won the Table Topics contest. In fact, David Thompson won it by bringing a stunning amount of structure to his impromptu speech. Also, Joanne Chow’s brilliantly funny speech, In Short, is not to be missed.

An excellent opportunity to see the best speakers in London. Five humorous speeches plus Table Topics and some education. How could you ask for more? — Dave Brooks, Area 31 Governor

Lance Bourne & Bill Moss — Award Winning Speakers

Tuesday was our club’s annual Humorous Speech competition, with a
Table Topic competition alongside. I’m pleased to announce that

Bill Moss

was judged best speaker, and that

Lance Bourne

was judged best in the Table Topics competition.

As the runner up in the topics contest, Bill will be representing Lance
at the Area competiton.

Each of them is elible to enter the Area Competition tomorrow night, so
come along and support them. (Or tag along just to see a competition night
run in a more traditional style. :-)

You’re welcome to bring friends and family, we just need to get you on
the list for security at Credite Suisse. Please respond to me by lunch
tomorrow with a list of names, and I’ll make sure they get to the folks
on the door.

It’s at 6:30 (for 7:00 start, I think) tomorrow night at Credit Suisse’s
Canary Wharf offices on 1 Cabot square. (http://club2027.org/meetings)
There will be drinks and nibbles, for which we are thankful to our Area
Governor, Dave Brooks.

I’d also like to thank the brave souls who also competed last night:

  • Tom Chrysostomou
  • Daniel Elias
  • Robert Gothan
  • Anthony Miller
  • Belinda Regan
  • Nat Tsolak
  • Holly Wang

And those not yet named who helped with the logistics:

  • Dave Brooks

Our Humorous Speech Competition

October 2, 2007
6:45 pmto9:00 pm

Roll up, roll up! The City of London Toastmasters Club is holding its annual humorous speech competition on the 2nd of October. A bit late in the day, since the Area Competition is just two days later. But if you’ve got a funny story to tell, and can spin it out for a few minutes, we’d love to hear it.

We’re also in need of Judges and other functionaries, so if you’re interested in playing a part without getting up to speak, contact our Vice President of Education, Funmi Ogun.

All members are eligible to enter the competition. There’s also a Table Topics competition and possibly an Evaluation competition, too…

Humorous Speech Competition — Toastmasters Area 31

Come one, come all. It’s the City of London Toastmasters competition winners, alongside winners of other clubs in our area. Still looking for judges and functionaries.

It’s at Credit Suisse, courtesy of our area governor Dave Brooks. Details to follow.

Dave’s a bit frustrated with us, which is probably my fault. If you’re interested in playing a part on the big evening, let me know and I’ll put you in contact with Dave:

Fellow area leaders,
The area governor is a little frustrated (that’s me) as offers of assistance for organising the area competition have been thin on the ground. I have organised a room and nibbles, I have two hosts. I need sergeant at arms, timer and judges. I could also do with an organiser as that two days around the competition I will be out of the office on business and will not be able to sort out the necessary access to the building. I will be asking my club on Tuesday at our relaunch for help, but until then, offers of further assistance would be appreciated.
